5 Ways to Give Your Home a Spring Refresh

“Here comes the sun, and I say, it’s all right.” –The Beatles

The glossy sheen of hardwood. Billie Eilish playing from the kitchen Alexa. The lingering sound of Saturday chatter from the kids playing outside with friends. The feeling of warmth washing over you as you pass through bright, airy, rejuvenated rooms. Spring must be here. It’s like greeting an old friend, don’t you agree?

Spring is the time to become excited for new beginnings, to enjoy all the beautiful blooms coming out, the lovely sounds out and about. Every spring, I always enjoy doing a deep clean of my house, usually while working to a poppy playlist – because there’s something about that lovely hopeful feeling you get when your house feels like a home, filled with cheerful spring scents and décor. There are plenty of simple ways to spruce up your home smartly without breaking the bank. From fresh scented candles to affordable home decor items, here are a few tips to help you perk up your home for this upcoming season.

5 Tips to Freshen Up Your Home for Spring

Light a Spring Scented Candle: To get your living spaces spring-ready, I always like to add candles in my home that mimic scents in nature. I’m a sucker for Anthropologie’s iconic Capri Blue candles – especially the Cactus Flower scent which screams spring. Its bright, punchy aroma of citrus and peach combines with cactus flower and fresh peonies – just perfect for lighting in a freshly cleaned space.

Upgrade Your Towels: Spring means spring cleaning and for many, this means out with the old and in with the new. If your bath towels are looking tired, personally I love upgrading to organic Turkish cotton towels. Turkish cotton is densely woven to create luxuriously soft and absorbent towels. I love the Classic Organic Towels from Pottery Barn and they come in a wide range of colors to choose from so you can create a serene, spa-like experience or use pops of color to brighten up the bath. I also keep Turkish cotton hand towels in our powder room to give our guests the treatment they deserve.

Add Natural Wicker Baskets: With spring comes warm weather and that means putting away all those plush winter blankets and pillows that kept you cozy just a few months prior. Wicker baskets combine natural charm with function for a fresh look for any room and also allows you to store a few crisp linens close by when you do get a bit chilly. How cute is this tulip shaped woven basket? Display and corral your spring linens neatly in this natural basket for a cottagecore vibe.

Add Pops of Green: Want to bring spring into your home? Add pops of green with plants and décor! I have a dirty little secret: I love bringing live plants home, but my husband has to care for them. I’m obsessed with the new Hilton Carter x Target limited-time collection of plants – the biggest decision you have to make is, live or faux? This weekend, I added a gorgeous, live monstera and a bird of paradise to my indoor jungle, but stopped myself from stowing the fiddle leaf fig in my shopping cart. When considering bringing greenery into your home, don’t forget to consider whether you have a green thumb – so you can choose your houseplant wisely. Another easy indoor plant to care for is the snake plant – you barely have to remember to water this one! I also like to add spring wreaths to the front door and faux flowers in the kitchen, as well.

Check Your Roof: While it may be intuitive to spring clean the inside of your home, we often forget about the exterior. One of the most essential parts of any house is the roof, which keeps you and your loved ones safe. Through the harshness of winter, your roof may have taken a beating, so you’ll want to make sure everything is in working order as the weather warms up. Make sure to do your research and find a reputable contractor such as Peter’s Roofing in New Jersey to help you every step of the way. Peter’s Roofing is one of the most reliable roof contractors in New Jersey, providing gutter and chimney repair, siding assistance, and skylight repair. Peter’s Roofing installs high-quality skylight systems to maximize the value of your roof and provides superior craftsmanship at competitive prices.
