Lessons from 2021 for the New Year

Here we are… deep into the first week of the new year and I’m just now editing photos from Christmastime and sitting down to reflect on 2021. In previous years, I’d have prepared a resolutions blog post, likely waxing about my intentions for the new year. This year, I still don’t have my focus word. And I’ve realized that’s okay. We’re not always going to be able to operate on timelines.

Want my unsolicited advice for the new year? Be gentle with yourself. Similarly, don't be afraid to be gentle with others. But learn when hard stops are necessary. Dress up for you, just because. You’ll feel good, I promise. Take yourself out for dinner or tea. Throw out the timelines. Trust your timing instead.

That said, I have no plans to share any sweeping resolutions, simply because I don’t have any – and if you don't either, then cheers to you, to us. The thing that we forget is that every day is an opportunity for a new start. You don't need the calendar to say January to do so.

Happy new year, my friends! I hope your year will be filled with gratitude, love, and health.
